A Night on

the Red Carpet

Gentlemen and girls, join us on February 8th, 2019, from 6:00-8:30pm, as we turn Neely into the set of an Old Hollywood movie premiere.

The night includes dinner, dancing, a craft, nail painting, and a photo. Our committee has been planning this event since August and they have thought of everything to make it a magical night for you and your girl.

Come dressed in your best Hollywood Glam looks.

Read below to learn about the night’s events.

Italian Dinner Catered by Floridino’s

Your choice of:

Spaghetti with red sauce or bolognese (meat) sauce

or

Ziti Alfredo

Both options are served with a green salad with Italian or Ranch dressing on the side, bread with butter available, and cookies for dessert.

Drinks include water, juice, and soda.

Dinner is served under the ramada at your convenience. The food is served outside C7.

Dedicated Photo Booth Time

There will be 2 professional photo booths with elegant props. Each girl’s ticket includes one printed 4×6 photo. Photos will be emailed or sent by text that night and printed photos delivered 10 days later.

When you arrive at the event, you will be given a wristband with a 15 minute time block. This is your dedicated time to take a picture as a family at the photo booth.

Photos will be taken in C7, across from the cafeteria.

Professional DJ

Enjoy dancing the night away with your girl as the DJ entertains the crowd with fun songs enhanced by great lighting.

Activities

A nail painting station and a jeweled photo frame craft will round out the night’s events. Please visit these at your convenience. The craft is located in the music room and nail painting is east of the ramada.

The cost of the event is $35 for the first Gentlemen/Girl couple, and each additional girl is $15.

Registration is online only. Payment is accepted by Credit Card, Cash, or Check (made out to Neely PTO).

When your order is complete, you will receive an email with your entrance tickets. Please have them printed or available on your phone on February 8th as you check in. This will help keep the line short.

No corsages will be sold this year.

Registration for paid PTO members opens on January 18 at 4pm with General Registration opening at 8am on January 21.

A paid registration is required to attend. There is a limit of 150 families. A wait list will be available after the event fills.

Evening of the Arts

Mrs. Bergman has worked devotedly over the years to instill a love of art in her students. This is an opportunity to appreciate the artist in each of your children.

Like last year, art will be displayed in beautiful frames, which can be purchased and taken home that evening. A percentage of the sales will be given back to the school to help develop our specials programs.

After you have found and admired your child’s art, be sure to stop at all the creative stations around the campus. There is rock painting, a craft based upon Yayoi Kusama’s Obliteration room, artist interviews by 6th graders, and a selfie station for photos.

In addition, there will be displays from our students demonstrating how math, science, music, and art intersect. Experience objects in our world from the perspective of someone one-tenth of our size; delve into the ever-creative world of science experimentation; and enjoy the musical talents of the best of our band and orchestra students along with other talented children in our school community.  Treats and hot chocolate will be available for sale for $1.00 each.  Select the image on this page for details on the framed art pre-sale.

The event is completely free to attend. Please dress appropriately for the weather as all of the art and activity stations will be located outdoors.

Neely Read-A-Thon

Dec 21 to January 6 (Winter Break)

Reading Is Fun!

+

We would like to encourage all of our students to continue reading over Winter Break. The difference 20 minutes of reading a day can make in a child’s future is amazing!

We Love Our School

=

Our school needs funds to do things like shade our playgrounds and update old equipment. The money for these items is not in the district budget.

A Read-A-Thon!

Let’s raise some funds and help our children start the new semester off strong! A little bit from many people can go a long way to helping us achieve our goals.

Details of the Read-A-Thon:

Kids read a LOT of books at Neely. We want to encourage them to keep up the good work over the holiday break.

Here is how it works:

Parents will track their child’s reading in minutes.

Kids will contact their friends and family and ask for a donation of any amount for each minute they read over break or for a one-time donation for completing any reading over break.

    • Cash or check can be used for one-time donations.
    • Parents can collect cash or check for “per minute” donations if they do the calculations manually (# of  minutes read  x $ donated per minute).
    • Friends and family can use  this website  to document their “per minute” pledge or  to send in a one-time donation and pay with a credit card.
    • Parents will need to log the total number of minutes on the website during the week of January 7th for the credit card to be charged.
    • Donations are due to school by January 14 at 4pm to be considered for the prize.

We keep 100% of the check/cash donations and 90% of credit card donations.

The other 10% is for admin fees from the Read-A-Thon site.

A couple of rules to keep things fair:

  • All books must be previously unread by that child.
  • We would prefer that the books be close to their AR level in difficulty to ensure their reading progress continues.
  • Children who can read independently must read the books themselves. Kindergarten or other students who still need support can log minutes read with an adult’s help or read on their own.

The prizes

Read 5 Hours (300 Minutes)

Every child who reads at least 20 minutes a day, for 15 days (for a total of 300 minutes) will receive a ThumbThing. It helps you hold open your book when you read!

Read the Most Minutes in Your Grade

The student who reads the most minutes in each grade will receive a Barnes and Noble Gift Card.

In case of a tie of minutes completed, we will determine a random tie breaker.

Raffle Entry for Reading More Than 5 Hours

We also have 2 grand prizes! Each full hour of reading after the first 5 is worth ONE (1) entry into the drawing for the grand prize raffle.

Primary (K-2) will be put in a drawing for this fun laptop that can change into a tablet!

Intermediate (3-6) will be entered into a second drawing for an XBox One with NBA2K19 and an Echo Dot, 3rd Generation

Raise the Most Money by Reading

Students will have one (1) week after the Read-A-Thon ends (until January 14th @ 4pm) to collect cash and online pledges. The winner of this Nintendo Switch with a Mario game is the student with the highest total collections before fees are deducted.

October 26, 5:30-8:30

Our Spooktacular Knight is a time to relax in the “cool” fall weather and watch a movie with your family, show off your Halloween costume, get a little candy, take a cute fall photo, and just have some fun! Bring a picnic dinner or you can purchase hot dogs, nachos, sausages, or soft pretzels from the Hot Dog King.

The movie for the night will be Hotel Transylvania 2.

Admission cost is $0, nada, nothin, not a penny! Just come and have fun!

We are asking for 2 things though: Canned goods for the Student Council Food Drive, and donations of candy for the night (turn this in by 3:30 on Wednesday October 24).

There will be a  fall-themed photo booth with a photographer taking photos until dark. We would like to borrow your Fall/Halloween decorations to make our campus extra Spooktacular. They can go home with you that night so you’re ready for Trick or Treaters on Halloween. We will send an email soon with specific needs for decorations.

Low chairs are welcome as are blankets and other picnic supplies. Camp chairs or other taller chairs are permitted on the sides of the picnic area only.

Gates will open at 5:30pm followed by the costume parade around 6:00 and the movie starting at 6:30.

Parent or responsible adult MUST stay on campus and supervise his or her own children. No Neely staff will be available to monitor children.

To help us plan for the event, please fill out the form below. It will only take 30 seconds!

We would like this event to be open to all students and we know some children have allergies that restrict their trick or treating fun. Please describe any allergies we should be aware of so that we can have alternate treats available to them.

We Need Your Help!

HOW TO HELP

  • Volunteer to help set up the drop off zone, help Neely families drop off donations, sort and re-box or bag items as needed, help to load the bins to be weighed and transported to Sunshine Acres.
  • If you aren’t able to work a full hour time slot but have a half hour, let us know so we can team you up with someone to fill the slot.
  • Please dress for the weather and in comfortable clothes and shoes. We will be in the landscape (dirt, rocks) and street (on and off the curb).
  • If you have time to volunteer and assist with this fundraiser on collection day (we especially could use a couple of strong parents while loading bins at the end of the day). Sign up here or call Susan Vail at 480-280-9918

Rule to remember:  If it hasn’t been used or worn in 3 years, it probably won’t ever be.

  • Bring your clothing items in plastic bags and bring in as many bags as you can.
  • Please place books and household items in boxes.
  • All donations go to Sunshine Acres Children’s Home!

Paper Drive, too!

Don’t carry it in – we will unload for you!

We will take your reams of paper and your cash to buy reams of paper right at the curb! No more loading up backpacks or hauling it into the office! Paper can also be donated in the office Monday-Wednesday.

3 Ways to Increase Donations for Our Clothing & Household Item Drive

Remember:  The Neely family that brings in the greatest weight gets a $25 check from Sunshine Acres.

  1. Ask your neighbors, friends and family to clean out their households.
  2. Stop at garage/yard sales in your neighborhood.  Let them know about our school fundraiser.  Offer to come back when their sale is over and take any items that we can accept.  Let them know you can provide them with a tax donation letter just like Goodwill can AND that all items will be going to help our school and Sunshine Acres Children’s Home.
  3. Watch Craigslist garage/yard sales, rummage and church/other organization sales.  They usually post when the sale is over.  Many post…”what’s left is at the curb, take what you want.”  You may offer them a tax donation letter as well and let them know that the donations help both our school and Sunshine Acres Children’s Home.

Clothing (all types & sizes)

All clothing accessories including Shoes, Purses, Backpacks, Belts, Linens, Bedding, Curtains, Pillows, Towels, Hats, Fabric, Sheets, Blankets, Duffel Bags, Sports Bags, Luggage, Socks, cloth/fabric and Comforters.

Miscellaneous:

Jewelry, records, compact disks, video tapes, DVD’s, games, toys and small sports equipment, Housewares…dishes, glassware, kitchen utensils, lamps, small countertop appliances, collectibles, antiques, knickknacks and other giftware, hand tools, small power tools, stereos, radios, VCRs, DVD players, etc. 18x18x18in or smaller.

NOTE: furniture, TVs, computers/printers, full size appliances or other large household items – they will take them but we don’t make money on them!

Loyalty Items Fundraiser

Orders Due November 2

Print an Order Form

Every year, we see these flyers for Harkins, but maybe you’re not quite sure what these items are or why our school is offering them.

Harkins sells many things besides movie tickets and they partner with schools and non-profits to raise funds.

One of the most popular items is their refillable souvenir cup. Purchase the cup for $6.50 and you can get $1.50 refills (first one is even free!) all year. If you purchase their summer movie tickets, this is a great way to get a cheap drink to stay cool!

While you’re at the theater, you can redeem your Popcorn Voucher. Each punch is good for a medium popcorn. There are 36 punches on each card – an average of 3 visits a month! Limit of one punch per visit. It’s only $30.

Lastly, if you can’t decide what to get that hard-to-shop-for person, we have $25 gift cards. Each gift card will also come with a coupon for a free medium popcorn

What does all this have to do with fundraising? Neely purchases these items at discount and sells them for regular price. You aren’t paying any more than you would in the theater, BUT Neely’s PTO gets some much needed cash to help our school continue to be awesome!

Orders are accepted by paper form only and must be turned in by November 2nd. We will deliver the vouchers for your purchased items by December 7th so you can have time to get them to your family and friends for the holidays.

Fall STEM KNO

(Kids’ Night Out)

September 7, 4:45-9:00pm

The evening’s entertainment includes:

A magician showing how to use science in fun ways

Pete Mueller demonstrating explosions – yes, really (but it’s all safe)

An astronomer to show you the mysteries of the universe

plus PIZZA!

You’ll get to do experiments of your own, too!

It’s science like you’ve never seen before at Neely!

Ready to register? The form opens at 8am on August 20. It closes at 4pm on September 4th.

Sign up on our waitlist

The form is set to take payments by cash, check, or PayPal. You may pay with a credit card or e-check through PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account.

Only 275 children will be enrolled. We will use the waiting list to add children if space opens up.

What does it cost?

It’s $18 for the first child enrolled, and $12 for each additional kid.

This price includes a pizza dinner, water, a treat, and all events for the evening.

What should my kid bring?

Not much! For the movie portion of the evening, the kids will be allowed to lay out blankets and pillows to get comfortable on the cafeteria floor. This will only be about 30 minutes at the end of the night, so they may not need anything. No toys or stuffed animals will be allowed. Please label all items with your name in case they are misplaced. These items will be stored in the music room until they are needed.

Your kid will NOT need a water bottle, a meal, or anything electronic! We have it all covered!

Who is going to be watching my kid?

Neely teachers! Aren’t they wonderful? Each grade will be with a certified teacher and several teen/parent helpers all evening. PTO board members will supervise and organize the event. Only registered volunteers will be allowed through the south cafeteria doors to ensure your child’s safety.

Give me the nitty-gritty. How does this all work?

Arrive before the doors open at 4:45 and get in line by student last name. Teachers will verify your child’s information, attach allergy wristbands, and direct your kids where to go. You may walk them into the cafeteria to help them get comfortable if needed, but only registered volunteers may enter the school campus.

Then you’re off for a kid free evening! We will contact you if your child needs you, we promise, so go with a carefree heart!

Return between 8:30 and 9:00. The east cafeteria door will be open and we will need you to be patient as we match children and parents safely. Do not leave younger siblings in the car, please. You will pick up the card you signed at check-in and proceed into the waiting area. If we don’t recognize you, we may ask for ID. We have wranglers to collect your kids for you and the kids will meet you by the double doors. If you have a photo of them on your phone, have it available to show the wrangler to make finding the kids faster. A volunteer will match your check-in card to your child’s sticker at the end of the waiting area and you will be free to go.

*If you have a 6th grader, please use the remind app at pick-up to text the 6th grade team your child’s name and that you are in line and they will send your kid to the cafeteria.

Box Tops Competition

Did your grade lose last time? Want to take down the winners?  Did you win and need to defend your title? This is your chance!

It’s the same competition that we did in the fall!

Each loose valid Box Top will count as 1 point. Neatly trimmed* Box Tops will count as 5 points per Box Top. A valid box top is one that has not expired and shows the brand code in the corner. Box tops that are not valid will not be counted.

To earn points, place your loose Box Tops in the bin for YOUR GRADE. Only loose Box Tops count as positive points. Remember, if they are loose AND neatly trimmed, they are worth 5 points!

To sabotage another grade, complete the Battle of the Box Tops sheet with a valid Box Top in each shield (10 total), and it will count as 25 points AGAINST the grade whose bin it is in. Be careful with your sabotages! Those same 10 neatly trimmed, but loose, Box Tops are worth 50 points when they are in YOUR OWN bin!

The competition runs from May 14-18, in the morning, before school only. Look for the table with bins under the East Ramada. Make sure your Box Tops are in the bins before the first bell rings at 8:33 if you want them to be counted.

The winning grade will win a cool treat. The winner will be announced in the afternoon on Friday, May 18th.

*Neatly Trimmed is defined as box tops that are within 1/4th inch of dotted line and are not “torn” on more than one edge.

Need another Sabotage form? Pick up one at the table in the morning during the competition or download here:
