BUILD THE CASTLE

Paper Drive

January 28 – February 1

One thing every Neely parent knows is that our school uses a LOT of paper.

Teachers are doing what they can to use less paper every day, but kids learn best when they can touch and see something physically in front of them.

Our campus paper supply is very low and our teachers need our help to make it to the end of the year with enough paper. One of our most helpful events, the Costco shopping night, was discontinued by Costco this year. In the past we have gotten 8-10 cases of paper from that one event. Please help us provide our teachers with one of the basic materials they need.

Bring it in by the ream, the case, or the pallet. Colored or White paper, we will use it all!

We will also accept cash/check donations if you don’t have time to shop. We can use it to buy paper in bulk at a discount.

The Prizes

We need your help in filling our stage with so many reams of paper that we can construct a CASTLE with it! If we can, everyone will earn a special school-wide reward!

How big of a castle do you want to build?

  • Cool Castle: Otterpops for everyone (800 reams)
  • Awesome Castle: Otterpops PLUS a Pajama Day the Friday before Spring Break! (1600 reams)

Also with every ream you donate, you will get one ticket to Skateland for a special Neely Only Skate Party and Indoor Snowball Fight on Tuesday, February 26, from 5:00-7:30pm. Bring your own skates or rent them for only $3.50.

Thank you for donating!

Be sure to subscribe to our website and follow us on Facebook. If we find any paper deals, we will post them!

Reading Is Fun!

+

We would like to encourage all of our students to continue reading over Winter Break. The difference 20 minutes of reading a day can make in a child’s future is amazing!

We Love Our School

=

Our school needs funds to do things like shade our playgrounds and update old equipment. The money for these items is not in the district budget.

A Read-A-Thon!

Let’s raise some funds and help our children start the new semester off strong! A little bit from many people can go a long way to helping us achieve our goals.

Details of the Read-A-Thon:

Kids read a LOT of books at Neely. We want to encourage them to keep up the good work over the holiday break.

Here is how it works:

Parents will track their child’s reading in minutes.

Kids will contact their friends and family and ask for a donation of any amount for each minute they read over break or for a one-time donation for completing any reading over break.

    • Cash or check can be used for one-time donations.
    • Parents can collect cash or check for “per minute” donations if they do the calculations manually (# of  minutes read  x $ donated per minute).
    • Friends and family can use  this website  to document their “per minute” pledge or  to send in a one-time donation and pay with a credit card.
    • Parents will need to log the total number of minutes on the website during the week of January 7th for the credit card to be charged.
    • Donations are due to school by January 14 at 4pm to be considered for the prize.

We keep 100% of the check/cash donations and 90% of credit card donations.

The other 10% is for admin fees from the Read-A-Thon site.

A couple of rules to keep things fair:

  • All books must be previously unread by that child.
  • We would prefer that the books be close to their AR level in difficulty to ensure their reading progress continues.
  • Children who can read independently must read the books themselves. Kindergarten or other students who still need support can log minutes read with an adult’s help or read on their own.

The prizes

Read 5 Hours (300 Minutes)

Every child who reads at least 20 minutes a day, for 15 days (for a total of 300 minutes) will receive a ThumbThing. It helps you hold open your book when you read!

Read the Most Minutes in Your Grade

The student who reads the most minutes in each grade will receive a Barnes and Noble Gift Card.

In case of a tie of minutes completed, we will determine a random tie breaker.

Raffle Entry for Reading More Than 5 Hours

We also have 2 grand prizes! Each full hour of reading after the first 5 is worth ONE (1) entry into the drawing for the grand prize raffle.

Primary (K-2) will be put in a drawing for this fun laptop that can change into a tablet!

Intermediate (3-6) will be entered into a second drawing for an XBox One with NBA2K19 and an Echo Dot, 3rd Generation

Raise the Most Money by Reading

Students will have one (1) week after the Read-A-Thon ends (until January 14th @ 4pm) to collect cash and online pledges. The winner of this Nintendo Switch with a Mario game is the student with the highest total collections before fees are deducted.

We Need Your Help!

HOW TO HELP

  • Volunteer to help set up the drop off zone, help Neely families drop off donations, sort and re-box or bag items as needed, help to load the bins to be weighed and transported to Sunshine Acres.
  • If you aren’t able to work a full hour time slot but have a half hour, let us know so we can team you up with someone to fill the slot.
  • Please dress for the weather and in comfortable clothes and shoes. We will be in the landscape (dirt, rocks) and street (on and off the curb).
  • If you have time to volunteer and assist with this fundraiser on collection day (we especially could use a couple of strong parents while loading bins at the end of the day). Sign up here or call Susan Vail at 480-280-9918

Rule to remember:  If it hasn’t been used or worn in 3 years, it probably won’t ever be.

  • Bring your clothing items in plastic bags and bring in as many bags as you can.
  • Please place books and household items in boxes.
  • All donations go to Sunshine Acres Children’s Home!

Paper Drive, too!

Don’t carry it in – we will unload for you!

We will take your reams of paper and your cash to buy reams of paper right at the curb! No more loading up backpacks or hauling it into the office! Paper can also be donated in the office Monday-Wednesday.

3 Ways to Increase Donations for Our Clothing & Household Item Drive

Remember:  The Neely family that brings in the greatest weight gets a $25 check from Sunshine Acres.

  1. Ask your neighbors, friends and family to clean out their households.
  2. Stop at garage/yard sales in your neighborhood.  Let them know about our school fundraiser.  Offer to come back when their sale is over and take any items that we can accept.  Let them know you can provide them with a tax donation letter just like Goodwill can AND that all items will be going to help our school and Sunshine Acres Children’s Home.
  3. Watch Craigslist garage/yard sales, rummage and church/other organization sales.  They usually post when the sale is over.  Many post…”what’s left is at the curb, take what you want.”  You may offer them a tax donation letter as well and let them know that the donations help both our school and Sunshine Acres Children’s Home.

Are you a shopper? Can you spot a bargain from 100 yards? We need your help shopping for the PTO next year. Email us at [email protected] to see how you can help!

Supply Drive

WE NEED YOUR HELP

Teachers are in need of replacement supplies for their classrooms.

We all know that the children must be eating the pencils with how often they disappear and it’s no different at school! Everything is consumed at a much faster speed than anyone thought possible.

It’s time to dig through the cupboards at home and send in those odds and ends supplies that you didn’t need for that school project anyway. I promise no teacher has turned down a partly used glue stick or opened container of Clorox Wipes!
Here is what is needed most:

  • Dry Erase Markers, both thin and thick
  • Reams of Paper
  • Glue Sticks
  • Pencils
  • Clorox Wipes
  • Crayons
  • Colored Pencils
  • Red Pens

To sweeten the deal, we will be running a competition. The class with the most items will win a cool treat!

Send your items in a bag labeled with the teacher’s name (if you have more than one kid, write all of the teachers’ names on the bag).  The items will be sent to the office to be counted and redistributed to the staff as needed throughout the rest of the year.

Your teacher may have a specific request for her classroom. Those items will not be tallied in the class count, and will stay in her room when donated.  Look for an email from her with specific items (not all teachers need specific things).

“Easiest way to give to school that I know of!”

Paper Drive

NOV 6-9

Our paper drive theme this year is:

BURY THE SECRETARY

One thing every Neely parent knows is that schools use a LOT of paper. While the PTO is happy to take a little of the work off of the shoulders of the teachers and make their copies, we can’t copy without PAPER!

We need your help in filling the office and our classrooms with so many reams of paper that Ms. Allison and Ms. Patti have trouble finding their desks!

Bring it in by the ream, the case, or the pallet. Colored or White paper, we will use it all!

More Fun

We are also adding a little incentive for the kids. The classroom with the greatest number of reams donated will win a prize. One prize will be awarded to a K-3 classroom and a second prize to a 4-6 classroom.

Your child’s name and teacher MUST be written on the wrapper or box of paper to be counted toward the class competition. In the case of multiple children, the total donated will be split as evenly as possible among the children’s teachers.

Thank you for donating!

And be sure to subscribe to our website and follow us on Facebook. If we find any paper deals, we will post them!
